Meet the farmers
The history of Shikuwasa cultivation in Okinawa goes back hundreds of years.
Our family own farm is located at Ōgimi village in the northern part of Okinawa. Beautiful sunlight and breeze of Okinawa are important for the most nutritious Shikuwasa.
The farmers of our little village of
Ōgimi, have grown and harvested the fruit for hundreds of years. The region, characterized by mineral-rich soil and water, abundant sunlight, and happy active farmers (who boast the highest life expectancy in the world), produce an unparalleled crop of Shikuwasa. The deep earthy flavor and noted health benefits, is both foundational to, and symbolic of the Okinawa's Diet, long acclaimed as the secret to the area’s longevity.
During the summer season, Shikuwasa is harvested young and green. We mix the young fruit in the summer and ripen fruit in the fall/winter to find the best blend of its taste.
One of the oldest books in Okinawa, dating back 400 years, talks about our superfruit. Shikuwasa has been supporting the Okinawan people for a long time!
Taking a break and sharing happiness is an important part of the day at the farm.
